তিনি চাঁদাবাজ ও মোগল সম্রাট :মকবুল
লিয়াকত শাহ ফরিদী, সিলেট ব্যুরোবিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য এবং সাবেক অর্থ ও পরিকল্পনামন্ত্রী প্রয়াত এম সাইফুর রহমানকে নিয়ে কটূক্তি করার পর আবারও আলোচনার ঝড় তুললেন সাবেক সাংসদ ড. সৈয়দ মকবুল হোসেন লেচু মিয়া। বিএনপির কেন্দ্রীয় সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক ও জেলা সভাপতি এম ইলিয়াস আলীকে চাঁদাবাজ উল্লেখ করে ফের আলোচনায় এসেছেন তিনি। প্রয়াত সাইফুর রহমানকে ২০০৫ সালে 'সিলেটের সম্রাট' বলে আলোচনার জন্ম দিয়েছিলেন মকবুল হোসেন। ২০০৬ সালে প্রাইভেটাইজেশন কমিশনের তৎকালীন চেয়ারম্যান ইনাম আহমদ চৌধুরীকেও কটাক্ষ করেন তিনি। ওই সময় ইলিয়াস আলী মকবুল হোসেনের পক্ষে থাকলেও এবার তার মুখ থেকেই 'চাঁদাবাজ' ও 'মোগল সম্রাট'-এর অভিযোগ শুনতে হলো তাকে। গত ১১ অক্টোবর সিলেট নগরীর আলিয়া মাদ্রাসা মাঠে বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়ার সমাবেশ সামনে রেখে ইলিয়াস কোটি টাকার চাঁদাবাজি করেছেন বলে অভিযোগ করেছেন মকবুল হোসেন। এ বিষয়ে ইলিয়াস আলী বলেন, লেচু মিয়া সিলেট বিএনপির কেউ নন। তার কথা বলার অধিকার নেই। গতকাল শুক্রবার স্থানীয় কয়েকটি পত্রিকায় মকবুল হোসেনের বক্তব্য প্রচারিত হওয়ার পর সিলেটজুড়ে তোলপাড় শুরু হয়। বিএনপির তৃণমূল পর্যায়ের নেতাকর্মীদের মধ্যেও বিরূপ প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখা দেয়। মকবুলের বক্তব্য সিলেটে ছিল 'টক অব দ্য টাউন'। এদিকে একটি সূত্র বলছে, জামায়াতি ষড়যন্ত্রে বিএনপি ও ইলিয়াস আলীর বিরুদ্ধে অপপ্রচার চালানো হচ্ছে।
সাবেক সাংসদ ড. সৈয়দ মকবুল হোসেন শুক্রবার সমকালকে বলেন, সাবেক এমপি পরিচয়ে গত ১১ অক্টোবর চারদলীয় জোটের জনসভায় অংশ নিয়ে মঞ্চে বসেছিলাম। তিনি বলেন, মহাসমাবেশের জন্য ২ কোটি টাকা ইলিয়াস আলী উঠালেও খরচ হয়েছে প্রায় ৭০ লাখ টাকা। বাকি টাকা কোথায় গেল এই প্রশ্ন তোলাই আমার 'অপরাধ' হয়েছে। তিনি বলেন, সত্য বলতে ভয় পাই না। সাইফুর রহমানকেও ডরাইনি, ইলিয়াস আলীকে ভয় পাব কেন? আমি তার খাই না পরি। ইলিয়াস আলীর মতো আয়বিহীন রাজনৈতিক নেতাদের বর্জন করা উচিত বলে মনে করেন মকবুল। তিনি বলেন, তারা সমাজ, রাজনীতির শত্রু। সাবেক অর্থমন্ত্রী সাইফুর রহমানের সঙ্গে আমার সমস্যার পর ইলিয়াসের সঙ্গে ঘনিষ্ঠ হয়ে দেখলাম তিনি 'মোগল সম্রাট'। তার আয়ের নিজস্ব উৎস নেই। বিএনপি ও খালেদা জিয়ার নাম ভাঙিয়ে তিনি চাঁদাবাজি করেন। ইলিয়াসের বিরুদ্ধে অশালীন আচরণেরও অভিযোগ আনেন মকবুল। তিনি বলেন, কোনো ভদ্রলোক ইলিয়াসের সঙ্গে চলতে পারে না। এ কারণে গত ৬ বছর ইলিয়াসের বাড়িতে যাইনি। সত্য কথা বললে, খরচের হিসাব চাইলে তার সঙ্গে ঝগড়া লেগে যায়। সিলেটে খালেদা জিয়ার রোডমার্চ ও জনসভায় কত টাকা খরচ হয়েছে আর কত টাকা চাঁদা উঠেছে_ এ হিসাব চাইতেই তিনি আমার ওপর ক্ষেপে গিয়ে বলেন, 'আমি ইলিয়াস জেলা বিএনপির সভাপতি, কেন্দ্রীয় নেতা কাউকে হিসাব দেয় না। আপনি এখন যেতে পারেন।'
মকবুল হোসেন দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সিলেটের রাজনীতিতে আলোচিত ব্যক্তিত্ব। মূলত তিনি শিল্পপতি ও ব্যবসায়ী। প্রথম জীবনে তিনি বিসিএস প্রশাসনে কর্মরত ছিলেন। টাঙ্গাইলে জেলা প্রশাসক থাকাকালে চাকরি থেকে ইস্তফা দিয়ে ব্যবসা শুরু করেন। ব্যবসায়ী হওয়ার পর তিনি রাতারাতি ধনকুবেরে পরিণত হন। মকবুল হোসেন তার 'বাংলাদেশ ১৯৭৫ থেকে ১৯৮১ ট্রানজিশন ফ্রম সিভিলিয়ান টু মিলিটারি রুল' গ্রন্থের প্রথম সংস্করণে (২০০১ সালে প্রকাশিত) 'জিয়ার শাসনামল অবৈধ' বলে উল্লেখ করেন। গ্রন্থটির মিলিটারি রুল ডেমোক্রেসি অ্যান্ড ইকোনমিক ডেভেলপমেন্ট ১৯৭৫ থেকে ১৯৮১ শিরোনামাঙ্কিত ৩নং অধ্যায়ে বলেছেন, '১৯৭৮ সালের ৩ জুন অনুষ্ঠিত রাষ্ট্রপতি নির্বাচন নিয়ে আইনগত ও সাংবিধানিক প্রশ্ন দেখা দিয়েছে। শহীদ জিয়া ১৯৭৮ সালের ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত তার সেনাবাহিনী প্রধানের পদ ছাড়েননি। কিন্তু সংবিধানের ৩৬ ধারার ৫নং অনুচ্ছদে আছে, একজন ব্যক্তি জাতীয় সংসদে সদস্য নির্বাচিত হতে পারেন না, যদি তিনি দেশের কোনো সরকারি অফিসে সুবিধাভোগী হন। এ কারণে শহীদ জিয়ার ওই শাসন আমল ছিল অবৈধ।'
১৯৮৬ সালে স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী হিসেবে সাংসদ নির্বাচিত হন মকবুল হোসেন। এ সময় তার বিরুদ্ধে পাউন্ড-ডলার চোরাচালানের অভিযোগ উঠে। এ নিয়ে দেশজুড়ে আলোচনার ঝড় বয়ে যায়। ১৯৯৬ সালে বিএনপির মনোনয়ন নিয়ে জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে পরাজিত হন। ২০০১ সালে বিএনপির মনোনয়ন না পেয়ে বিদ্রোহী প্রার্থী হিসেবে স্বতন্ত্র এমপি নির্বাচিত হন। পরে বিএনপিতে যোগ দেন মকবুল। ২০০৫ সালে সাইফুর রহমানকে নিয়ে কটূক্তি করে তিনি ব্যাপকভাবে আলোচিত হন।
এদিকে নতুন করে ইলিয়াস আলীকে 'চাঁদাবাজ' ও 'মোগল সম্রাট' বলে আলোচনার জন্ম দিয়েছেন। বিএনপির সিলেট অভিমুখে রোডমার্চ-পরবর্তী জনসভার জন্য ইলিয়াস আলীকে ২০ লাখ টাকা চাঁদা দেন বলে দাবি করেন মকবুল। ১১ অক্টোবর অনুষ্ঠিত জনসভায় উপস্থিত থাকলেও তাকে বক্তব্য দেওয়া দূরের কথা, পরিচয়ও করিয়ে দেওয়া হয়নি বলে তিনি অভিযোগ করেন। এতে তিনি প্রচণ্ড অপমান বোধ করেন, মানসিক কষ্ট আর ক্ষোভ প্রশমন করতে পারছেন না। এ জন্য তিনি সরাসরি দায়ী করছেন বিএনপির কেন্দ্রীয় সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক এম ইলিয়াস আলীকে।
মকবুল বলেন, আমি দলের মনোনয়নের তোয়াক্কা করি না। মরহুম সাইফুর রহমান আমার ক্ষতি করতে পারেননি, তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকার এবং চারদলীয় জোট সরকারের সময় ইনাম চৌধুরী, ইফতেখার চৌধুরীর পরিবার আমার পেছনে লাগলেও ক্ষতি করতে পারেনি। আমি মাসে সাড়ে ৩ থেকে ৪ কোটি টাকা সরকারকে ট্যাক্স দিই। এছাড়া আমার প্রতিষ্ঠান লার্জ টেক্স-পেয়ার ইউনিট (এলটিইউ) একটি মানসম্মত প্রতিষ্ঠান। মহাসমাবেশ আয়োজনে অন্তত দুই কোটি টাকা চাঁদা তুলে ৭০ লাখ খরচ করে বাকি টাকা ইলিয়াস আলী আত্মসাৎ করেছেন বলে অভিযোগ করেন মকবুল। তিনি বলেন, ইলিয়াস আলীকে ২০ লাখ টাকা দেওয়ার পর জিজ্ঞেস করেছিলাম, টাকা কোন খাতে খরচ হয়েছে। উত্তর পাইনি।
বিএনপিতে বারবার বহিষ্কৃত এবং বারবার সমাদৃত সাবেক এমপি মকবুল কোনোবারই বিএনপির টিকিটে পাস করতে পারেননি। গত চারদলীয় জোট ক্ষমতায় থাকাকালে ইলিয়াস আলী ও মকবুল হোসেন দু'জনই এমপি ছিলেন। তৎকালীন বিএনপির প্রভাবশালী নেতা ও অর্থমন্ত্রী মরহুম সাইফুর রহমানের সঙ্গে ইলিয়াস আলীর বিরোধ যখন তুঙ্গে তখন মকবুল ইলিয়াসের পাশে ছিলেন। এবার পাল্টে গেছে দৃশ্যপট।
গত ১৫ বছরের মধ্যে ইলিয়াস আলী ১৫ লাখ টাকা রোজগার করতে পেরেছেন কি-না সে প্রশ্ন মকবুলের। ইলিয়াস আলী এবং তার স্ত্রী কীভাবে দুটি প্রাডো গাড়ি চালান, ইলিয়াস কীভাবে দুটি ফ্ল্যাটের মালিক হলেন, কীভাবে বনানীতে ৬ তলা বাড়ি তৈরি করছেন, এত সম্পদ তার কীভাবে হলো_ এসব বিষয়ে প্রশ্ন তোলেন মকবুল।
ইলিয়াস আলী সমকালকে বলেন, এসব ডাহা মিথ্যা কথা। মকবুল সিলেট বিএনপির কেউ নন। এমন বক্তব্য দেওয়ারও তার অধিকার নেই। এটা তার রাজনৈতিক দেউলিয়াপনার বহিঃপ্রকাশ। তিনি বলেন, মহাসমাবেশ সফলের লক্ষ্যে বিভিন্ন উপ-কমিটি গঠন করা হয়। এসব উপ-কমিটির মাধ্যমে মহাসমাবেশের কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করা হয়েছে।

Ex-US envoy's remarks on BNP-led govt in 2006
The BNP-led government was engaged in an apparently unprecedented level of corruption towards the end of its tenure, said a US diplomatic cable leaked recently.
“Greed and the need to finance upcoming political campaigns are driving the upswing,” read the cable US ambassador Patricia Butenis sent to Washington on August 24, 2006, nearly two months before the end of the five-year tenure of the BNP-led government.
Anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks published the cable titled “Last call! Corruption at the end of the BNP government” on August 30.
The widely-held belief that family members of the then prime minister and other senior ministers were engaged in systemic corruption with impunity had further “fuelled petty corruption at all levels, as lower officials saw little risk to getting theirs,” said the cable.
The dispatch cited several instances focusing on corruption during the tenure of the BNP-led four-party alliance government.
It said the revival of a proposed $223 million tender award the previous week for machine readable passports, visas and national identity cards was perhaps the largest -- but by no means the only -- questionable procurement to be rushed through in the dying days of the BNP-led government.
"On August 21, the Cabinet Purchase Committee considered another 19 projects worth $122 million, approving all but two despite allegations of serious irregularities involving all the projects," it said. The committee on July 17, 2006 had rejected the home ministry's proposal for giving the contract to German bidder Giesecke and Devrient Gmbd.
The committee was especially critical of the identity card component, which it said had not been authorised by the Prime Minister's Office.
The purchase committee also criticised the home ministry for failing to prepare the legal and institutional framework for a national identity card programme, for not using international experts to evaluate the tender submissions, and for entrusting such a large undertaking to a single contractor.
It sent back the project to the home ministry with instructions to re-tender a revised project for the machine readable passports and visa only. In early August that year, the ministry reportedly instructed officials to prepare a new tender.
The project was revived on instructions from the PMO, according to reports. On August 15, the then state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar confirmed in an interview with The Daily Star that the Cabinet Division had instructed him to resubmit the project to the purchase committee.
The dispatch said the project was not considered at the committee meeting on August 21, but was expected to be considered at its next meeting.
Other questionable procurements that were under consideration or approved included telecom, sanitation and transportation infrastructure projects, a dozen land deals, retroactive payments for unsolicited maintenance services at government power plants, and several power sector proposals, the cable said.
“These join recent allegations of government support for syndicates involved in price manipulation of basic commodities, including rice and sugar, anecdotal reports of an increase in the value of bribes paid to police, magistrates and other government officials throughout the bureaucracy, and a breaking scandal involving false beneficial owner stock accounts opened to evade rules governing subscriptions to initial public offerings.”
Butenis wrote it was widely believed that the prime minister's two sons, as well as relatives of other senior ministers, were directly involved in promoting such questionable deals in exchange for significant "commissions".
In at least two tenders for police radio equipment, an apparent victory by US bidder Motorola was overturned following a direct intervention from Tarique Rahman to Babar on behalf of Tarique's brother Arafat Rahman Koko, who was working on behalf of Singapore Technologies, according to the cable.
Singapore Technologies would also have a significant role in the project on machine readable passports and national identity cards, according to embassy sources, the dispatch said.
“The present level of grand corruption was unprecedented and significantly greater than corruption at the end of the previous Awami League government,” Iftekhar Zaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), told an US embassy officer on August 23, 2006.
Butenis cited that BNP cancelled many contracts issued in the waning days of the previous government -- officially because of corruption concerns though often for political reasons.
“If elected, Awami League will probably take similar action against late-term BNP deals, both to demonstrate its own anti-corruption credentials and to create fresh opportunities to garner "commissions" from re-tendered contracts,” the cable read.
“For this reason, the BNP's inability to close last-minute deals in the power and energy sectors may be the one silver-lining in the otherwise dark cloud of corruption hanging over the BNP's final months in office.”

in the Territory
It may appear to be difficult to establish jurisdiction in cases that do not involve
nationals and where only some of the elements of the offense are committed
in or against a particular jurisdiction. However, many jurisdictions have found
innovative ways to accomplish this. Here are some factors on which they have
focused:
• Financial transactions in the territory. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld
convictions of defendants who used interstate wires to execute a scheme
to defraud a foreign government of tax revenue.
• Origin of activities. In Brazil, a telephone call, fax, or e-mail emanating
from Brazil would be sufficient to establish jurisdiction over an act of foreign
bribery.
• Links to other crimes committed in the territory. In France, jurisdiction
can be established over crimes committed in a foreign jurisdiction if those
crimes can be linked to crimes committed in France.
• Transfers of national currency (even if outside the territory). In 2009,
the U.S. Department of Justice filed a confiscation action against bribery
proceeds paid (in Singapore, with U.S. currency) by a foreign company to
the son of the former prime minister of Bangladesh. The Department of
Justice successfully argued that the transfer of U.S. currency between
fi nancial institutions outside the United States necessarily transited through
U.S. correspondent banks. Also supporting the establishment of jurisdiction
was the fact that the foreign company making the bribe was registered
on the New York Stock Exchange and subject to U.S. laws and regulations.

Fined for not reporting $3 million in transfers

THE managing director of a company providing corporate secretarial services, failed to inform authorities in 2007 that he had been instructed by Mr Arafat Rahman Koko - the son of former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia - to transfer and hold some $3,171,000 in his personal bank account.
The court was told that with his experience, Lim Siew Cheng, 63, should have suspected the money could be the proceeds of criminal conduct and should have reported it to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau or the police.
He did neither and on Monday he pleaded guilty and was fined $6,000 each for the two offences under laws to prevent money-laundering.
According to investigations, he got to know Mr Rahman, who wished to set up a company here, through a mutual acquaintance and in April 2004, Zasz Trading & Consulting was incorporated. Together with Mr Rahman, he was also an authorised signatory for Zasz bank account with United Oversea Bank (UOB).
A year later, he set up a second company for Mr Rahman, known as Fairhill Consulting, with Lim as the sole authorised signatory of its UOB account. On Feb 16, 2007, Mr Rahman called Lim to close down the two companies immediately because of political problems in Bangladesh. Lim was also instructed to transfer US$900,677 (S$1.2 million) in the Fairhill account and the S$2,013,467 in the Zasz account into his own bank account.
Madam Khaleda was prime minister from 1991 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006. Her youngest son Rahman is now facing corruption charges in Bangladesh and is accused of laundering more than US$2.7 million through bank accounts in Singapore.

THE managing director of a company providing corporate secretarial services, failed to inform authorities in 2007 that he had been instructed by Mr Arafat Rahman Koko - the son of former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia - to transfer and hold some $3,171,000 in his personal bank account.
The court was told that with his experience, Lim Siew Cheng, 63, should have suspected the money could be the proceeds of criminal conduct and should have reported it to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau or the police.
He did neither and on Monday he pleaded guilty and was fined $6,000 each for the two offences under laws to prevent money-laundering.
According to investigations, he got to know Mr Rahman, who wished to set up a company here, through a mutual acquaintance and in April 2004, Zasz Trading & Consulting was incorporated. Together with Mr Rahman, he was also an authorised signatory for Zasz bank account with United Oversea Bank (UOB).
A year later, he set up a second company for Mr Rahman, known as Fairhill Consulting, with Lim as the sole authorised signatory of its UOB account. On Feb 16, 2007, Mr Rahman called Lim to close down the two companies immediately because of political problems in Bangladesh. Lim was also instructed to transfer US$900,677 (S$1.2 million) in the Fairhill account and the S$2,013,467 in the Zasz account into his own bank account.
Madam Khaleda was prime minister from 1991 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006. Her youngest son Rahman is now facing corruption charges in Bangladesh and is accused of laundering more than US$2.7 million through bank accounts in Singapore.

Between 2004 and 2006, Siemens COM paid approximately $5.3 million in bribes to government officials in Bangladesh in connection with a contract with the Bangladesh Telegraph & Telephone Board (BTTB) to install mobile telephone services. The. total value of the contract was approximately $40.9 million. The payments were made to three business consultants pursuant to sham agreements calling for services associated with the mobile telephone project. The ultimate recipients of the payments included the son of the then-Prime Minister in Bangladesh, the Minister of the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunicationsin Bangladesh, and the BTTB Director of Procurement. In addition, Siemens Limited Bangladesh, a regional company, hired relatives. of two other BTTB and Ministry of Post and Telecom officials. Most of the money paid to the business consultants was routed through correspondent accounts in the United States, with at least one payment originating from a U.S. account. Since approximately September 2004, a Siemens business consultant who served as a principal payment intermediary on the Bangladesh bribe payments has been resident in the United States. At least $1.7 million of the bribe payments made through this intermediary were paid into a Hong Kong bank account while the intermediary was residing in the United States.

ঢাকা, অগাস্ট ১৫ (বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকম)- বিতর্কিত জন্মদিনে হাজারের বেশি নেতা-কর্মীকে নিয়ে কেক কেটেছেন বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়া, নিয়েছেন ফুলের শুভেচ্ছা।
সোমবার প্রথম প্রহরে গুলশানে দলীয় কার্যালয়ে ৬৭ পাউন্ড ওজনের চারটি কেক কাটেন খালেদা। ওই সময় ওই কার্যালয়ে ছিলো নেতা-কর্মীদের ভিড়। 'শুভ শুভ শুভদিন, খালেদা জিয়ার জন্মদিন', ' খালেদা জিয়া এগিয়ে চলো, আমরা আছি তোমার সাথে'- ইত্যাদি স্লোগান ছিলো তাদের মুখে।

রোববার রাত ১২টা ১ মিনিটে কেক কেটে খালেদা জিয়ার ৬৭তম জন্মদিন উদ্যাপন করেছে বিএনপি।
চেয়ারপারসনের জন্মদিন উদ্যাপনে মধ্যরাতে গুলশান কার্যালয়ে বিএনপি ও এর অঙ্গ-সহযোগী সংগঠনের নেতা-কর্মীরা সমবেত হন। বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর দলের পক্ষ থেকে খালেদা জিয়াকে জন্মদিনের শুভেচ্ছা জানান।
গুলশান কার্যালয়ে রাত ১২টা ১ মিনিটে খালেদা জিয়া প্রথমে মহানগর বিএনপি ও স্বেচ্ছাসেবক দলের নেওয়া ৬৭ পাউন্ড ওজনের দুটি কেক কাটেন। এরপর বিএনপি কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটি ও ছাত্রদলের পক্ষ থেকেও দুটি কেক কাটেন তিনি। খালেদা জিয়া কেকগুলো এতিমখানায় পাঠিয়ে দেন।
কেক কাটার পর বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসন একটি বইয়ের মোড়ক উন্মোচন করেন। বইটির নাম মাতৃস্নেহে বাংলাদেশ। বইটিতে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সাবেক উপাচার্য এমাজ উদ্দীন আহমদ, মনিরুজ্জামান মিঞা, মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর, সাদেক হোসেন খোকা ও সৈয়দ মোয়াজ্জেম হোসেন আলালের লেখা কয়েকটি প্রবন্ধ রয়েছে।

‘খালেদা জিয়াকে ক্ষমতায় যাওয়ার তৌফিক দান করো’
‘হে আল্লাহ, খালেদা জিয়াকে ক্ষমতায় যাওয়ার তৌফিক দান করো।’ ইসলামী ঐক্যজোটের চেয়ারম্যান মুফতি ফজুলল হক আমিনী ইফতারের আগে এই দোয়া করলেন।
গতকাল বুধবার রাজধানীর পূর্বাণী হোটেলে রাজনীতিবিদদের সম্মানে এ ইফতারের আয়োজন করে ইসলামী ঐক্যজোট।
ইফতারে কোনো বক্তব্য দেননি মুফতি আমিনী। তবে বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসন বেগম খালেদা জিয়া যাওয়ার পর মোনাজাত করেন তিনি। এ সময় খালেদা জিয়া ছাড়াও মঞ্চে বিএনপির মহাসচিব খোন্দকার দেলোয়ার হোসেন, স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য নজরুল ইসলাম খান, বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসনের উপদেষ্টা মীর মোহাম্মদ নাছিরউদ্দিন, জামায়াতে ইসলামীর ভারপ্রাপ্ত আমিন মকবুল আহমাদ, ইসলামী ঐক্যজোটের মহাসচিব মাওলানা আবদুল লতিফ নেজামী, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় পার্টির (বিজেপি) মহাসচিব শামীম আল মামুন প্রমুখ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
সন্ধ্যা সোয়া ছয়টার দিকে খালেদা জিয়া অনুষ্ঠানস্থলে উপস্থিত হন। এর পর মুফতি আমিনী তাঁর মোনাজাত শুরু করেন।
মোনাজাতে মুফতি আমিনী বলেন, ‘হে আল্লাহ, খালেদা জিয়াকে দেশকে খেদমত করার ক্ষমতা দান করো। সরকারের পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় ধর্ম ও ইসলামের বিরুদ্ধে যে ষড়যন্ত্র চলছে, তা থেকে দেশকে হেফাজত করো।’
মোনাজাতে বলা হয়, ‘হে আল্লাহ, তুমি চারদলীয় জোটকে শক্তিশালী করো। খালেদা জিয়াকে ক্ষমতায় যাওয়ার তৌফিক দান করো। খালেদা জিয়া ওমরাহ করতে যাচ্ছেন, তাঁর ওমরাহ কবুল করো।...সন্ত্রাসবাদ, জঙ্গিবাদ দিয়ে ইসলামকে ধ্বংসের ষড়যন্ত্র থেকে দেশকে হেফাজত করো।’

বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসন ও বিরোধীদলীয় নেতা খালেদা জিয়া গত শনিবার মধ্যরাতে কেক কেটে তাঁর জন্মদিন উদ্যাপন করেছেন। তাঁর গুলশানের কার্যালয়ে এই কেক কাটার সময় বিএনপির নেতা-কর্মী ও শুভানুধ্যায়ীরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
গতকাল ১৫ আগস্ট ছিল খালেদা জিয়ার ৬৬তম জন্মদিন। তিনি ১৯৪৫ সালে দিনাজপুরে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন।
